Although the FEI Eventing European Championship for Juniors and Young Riders, held in Morawa near Strzegom, have only just begun, it has already brought the first reasons for celebration for the German team.
The opening day of competition was all about dressage. Half of the athletes in both age categories – Juniors and Young Riders – presented their competitions in the Strzegom arena.
In the Junior category, Anna-Maria Triskatis from Germany, riding her mare Ida, proved unbeatable and clearly dominated the day’s performances. Second place went to the only male rider in the top ranks – Matis Cogniet, the last year European Pony Team Champion. Pia Sophie Schreiber, riding the gelding Cliemann, secured third place. She has consistently finished among the top dressage tests at Strzegom in recent years.
In the Young Riders category, the lead held by British rider Anya Strilkowski and her gelding K was overtaken late in the day by Germany’s Isabel Kristin Dalecki and Caruso JH. Dalecki, who was part of last year’s bronze-medal-winning team, once again showcased her excellent form. The third spot went to another German team member – Greta Laetizia Tidow riding Checkpoint A 2.
Strong performances by the German riders have given their team a solid foundation in the battle for top positions in the overall standings.
Tomorrow, the remaining competitors from the 18 participating national teams will take to the dressage arena. Among them will be Jasmine Underwood – last year’s gold medallist in the Young Riders category – and Hannah Busch, who won the Junior title in 2024 and is now making her debut in the higher category.
On Saturday, attention will shift to the thrilling cross-country phase, and on Sunday, the athletes will face their final challenge in the show jumping arena.
